The story of Stereotype is one that began in the meeting of Armondo Fowlow and Don-E Coady, two like-minded Newfoundland musicians, each with a life long passion and commitment to music and performance. Meeting in 2003 when they came together with three mutual musicians to form PUMt, a funk rock band in St. John’s. After playing extensively over the year that followed, rehearsals became focused and driven towards developing their now trademark original sound which lead to a shift in direction for the two, and along with their bass and rhythm component of their previous band, they reformed in late 2003 into a pop rock original music maker that they apply named Stereotype, combining influences from a wide degree of musical backgrounds.

The chosen name Stereotype is important and defining to it’s founding members as it serves as both a tongue in cheek reference to their wide range accessibility to music fans of any influence and is a respective identity statement that dares the listener to label the charge of the band.

An intense assault on the local club scene in St. John’s 2004 lead to recording ambitions for Stereotype, fitting in demo creation of their many original works between live shows. After a fast 6 months their self-titled debut was ready and was released in February of 2005, carrying Stereotype to a great deal of success and local interest throughout the year that followed. From coverage on Canada wide television broadcasts such as Canada Now and local talk shows like Rogers Television's, "Out of the Fog", to radio support on CBC, CHMR FM, Coast 101.1 FM and OZFM, the province had caught onto Stereotypes sound, so much so that along with extensive media support, they were approached to be the flagship band for the Atlantic Canadian region of Budweisers True Music pilot program which gave them the opportunity to tour and play with bands from across Canada.

Stereotype become profiled through many media supporters and reached many fans. The whirlwind local success of Stereotype was capped off when in August of the same year, they sold out of their release and were nominated for best pop/rock band at the MusicNL Awards that fall.

In the year that followed, Stereotype went underground, writing and rehearsing new material and searching for a deeper sound that would take them further in their mission of writing and performing material that would make impact with their many fans and soon-to-be supporters.

In January of 2007, Stereotype returned with a five-member strong plan of action and onslaught of new progressive up-rock material and the wildfire return of old and new fans to their sold out club gigs, Stereotype has completed their sophomore triumph.

May first, 2008 is its release of Stereotype '2'. Bend an ear to more from the uplifting and anything but Stereotypical sound.
